New Brows and Gorgeous Eyes

 

The lovely Judy has been one of my clients for her beauty treatments for quite a few years now. I have always tinted her brows and eyelashes to give them a bit more definition but as many people know this only lasts 4-6 weeks. She was getting fed up of applying brow pencil and eye-liner everyday, then having to fix smudges throughout the day as well. So she bit the bullet and booked in to have her new brows and gorgeous eyes defined with permanent make-up at my clinic.

We did brows first. Drawing the desired shape on with pencil first to make sure she was happy with the shape. We decided on doing hair stroke brows to keep them as natural as possible, but at the same time giving her the much needed, and wanted definition to her natural brow.

The colour was chosen based on her skin colouring, we went for a rich warm brown which perfectly complemented her eye colour and hair colour too.

Below are some before and straight after pics will have to wait a few weeks for the fully healed result. Colour will have faded slightly. The jet black eye-liner will also fade to a soft black once it has healed into the skin.

Finally got round to putting a few words together following my eyebrow experience with you, sorry its taken me so long no excuses and I’m so happy with them so here goes.

As I said before, having dipped my toe in the water before and had an unpleasant experience, I was a bit anxious second time round. I needn’t have worried……….you put me at ease right from the start and, whilst your bubbly personality shone through from the beginning, you are a total professional. From the very first pre-treatment appointment you were reassuring and I trusted you – a big plus given my previous experience. As for the treatment and result itself, I couldn’t have asked for better, you constantly checked my comfort and I never felt uncomfortable with the treatment at any time. As for the result, it has changed my morning make-up routine, no more drawing on eyebrows that don’t match or that slide off my face during the course of the day. In addition you have also managed to correct the previous disaster that I was walking around with every day so again, what more could I ask for ?

Your New Brows

When brows are first done they will be darker than your used too, but this only lasts about 5 days and there is good reason why they are dark to start with. While the treatment takes place the blood and lymph rush to the surface which can make the chosen colour look darker, but also as the skin heals you are going to loose up to 70% of the pigment!  The skin sees the pigment as a foreign body and tries to push it out. So if the colour is a bit of a shock to what your used to, they will be the perfect colour once healed.

If it has been your first treatment you may have some areas that may not have taken so well, you shouldn’t worry as this will be filled in and any tweaks made at the 6 week top up appointment.

I always warn people that as the brows heal they may experience some scabbing, but nearly everyone that came back just said they had a slight flaking of the skin, and they said the only thing people noticed (if they even noticed) were the amazing new brows they had. That’s how natural they are.

Each colour is custom blended to take into account skin tone and hair colour, the shape of your new brows is drawn on and shown to you for your input before any treatment takes place. I will also take a look at your skin and advise you on how long the pigment will last. There are lots of factors when talking about how long the pigment will last in each individual, these include, skin type, skin care regime, using an spf, and age. I will be able to give you a rough idea on when a colour booster will be needed but it usually works out to be 1 year to 18 months.

So when your brows are done, yes they will be a bit darker but there’s no need to hide! Show them off!

Top Tips For Perfect Brows

Having the right shape brow to suit your face is a must and it can make you look younger, if you get it right! Follow these simple rules and you will have brows to be proud of.

If you can, it’s usually best to try to get your brows shaped by a professional. They will be able to give you a great shape that you can just keep tidy between treatments.

The arch of the brow should be just outside your pupil. Fuller brows can give a youthful appearance, so don’t over pluck!

The picture below shows where your brow should start, arch and end. Start thicker and taper to a thin line towards the temple.

NEVER fill in your brows with black pencil; this is just too harsh for your skin. If you want them dark use a dark brown pencil or powder, even if you have black hair.

For a natural brow use a powder, this gives a softer look than pencil.

To make your brows look amazing keep the inner part of the brow soft then really define the arch and tails.

To tame crazy and unruly brow hairs use a brow gel. If the hairs are really long then when you have them shaped professionally see if they can trim them for you. Don’t try this yourself; you don’t want to mess them up!

My Tattooed Eyeliner Diary

Getting My Eyeliner Tattoo

Well today is the day! I have been waiting ages to have my eyeliner tattooed on, and although I hate having anything near my eyes or water going in my eyes I am surprisingly calm. I have total faith in my technician and I know she will do a good job! (I did train with her after all!)

I am having upper and lower lash enhancement with a thin eyeliner across the top.

Lower Eyeliner Tattoo

Firstly we decided on thickness and how far in I wanted the lower liner to come. Then the colour, I wanted a smokey charcoal look, to just enhance my eyes when I didn’t have any mascara on.

Does permanent makeup hurt?

The topical anaesthetic was firstly applied to the lower lash line. 20 minutes later, I was ready. And you know what, it didn’t feel too bad, slightly scratchy but it didn’t hurt. More anaesthetic was applied as the treatment on the lower lash line commenced, I was completely numb.

When the lower was finished the excess pigment was just wiped away and the anaesthetic applied to the upper lash line, time for a quick cuppa while the top was numbing!

Upper Eyeliner Tattoo

Now the top was slightly different feeling, the outer edge was fine just a light scratchy sensation but closer to the inner corner it felt a little bit stingier, but, it only lasted a few seconds and more numbing was applied. The inner corner is a bit more sensitive but was never a treatment stopper. The inner lash line is done in very small stages so that the anaesthetic has a chance to work.

When the treatment was finished I was cleaned off ready for the mirror. Wow, a little swollen but my eyes looked amazing! The thickness was perfect, and I knew that the colour was going to look very black at first but they looked great.

Next Morning

My eyes are a little swollen but they don’t hurt, they just feel heavy like I had had a very late night.

Few days later

Swelling has gone down and I still love it! I’ll be sad when the colour starts to shed as it heals!

5 Days After Treatment

The colour is starting to lightly shed on the lower lash line. I have the odd itch every now and then but I am just lightly tapping the itch to stop it. Don’t want to scratch as it may pull the pigment out. Feels great not having to wear mascara as it heals. You can use mascara if you want but it must be a new one.

 

3 Weeks After Treatment

I am completely healed! The top line is looking great, the lower line has held on one side but has not held so well on the other side. It’s not an issue though as it’s such a fine line anyway, and seeing as I have only had one treatment I am very impressed with how good the top looks. Just need to wait another three weeks till I can have my top up, by then the colour should be a bit brighter too!

Micro pigmentation, cosmetic tattoo and permanent makeup tattoo are just some of the names given to semi-permanent makeup.

Is Permanent Makeup Permanent?

Permanent makeup is considered permanent as it cannot be washed off. It does however fade, making it also semi-permanent; a touch up is usually required every 12-18 months to keep the colour looking fresh.

The lighter the pigment used the quicker it will fade, but you can help the life of your permanent makeup by following some simple after care steps.

  • Once healed use a sun screen. The higher the SPF the better. I use a factor 30 every day in my regular moisturiser; I just rub it into my eyebrows.
  • Avoid any exfoliates on the area. As the skin naturally sheds it fades the tattoo, by exfoliating the area you will shorten the life of your permanent makeup and you will need a top up sooner.
  • It is recommended if you plan to use chlorinated pools and Jacuzzi’s to apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the treated area once it has fully healed. When your permanent cosmetics are in contact with strong chemicals use a protector.
  • If you’re planning to have a facial peal or laser hair removal near the areas treated please let the person doing it know you have had permanent makeup.
